At least two Lasers and a host of other boats were damaged when a tornado hit Hampton Yacht Club during Southern Bay Race Week on Friday night. No people were seriously injured. Hampton Yacht Club had a direct hit and while most of the boats in the water did alright, most of the boats in the parking lot were thrown about and damaged including the club’s 420 fleet and some Lasers. Henry Amthor’s 50005 was thrown over a fence and his wife’s boat was thrown 100 yards down bridge street (pictured above). A an account of the storm passing by FBYC members who were at the club at the time can be found here and more pictures are here. Other accounts can be found here, here, and video.
